The Environment’s Preferred Products
Many new products are available that are less harmful to the environment than their conventional counterparts, including those that have lower emissions, those that are sustainably produced, and those made from recycled content.

The walls at Green Harbor Point are built using finger-jointed lumber. This benefits the lumber manufacturing process by salvaging short lengths from low-quality lumber to make long lengths of higher-grade lumber. The builder and homeowner benefit by using a created piece of wood that stays straighter and is stronger than traditional studs.

The floor and roof assemblies at Green Harbor Point are built with Nascor I-joists. These I-shaped joist systems, like truss systems, are constructed with small-dimension lumber. Nascor joists require less than half of the wood material per square foot than traditional floor construction. Nascor joists have a higher load carrying capacity, virtually no susceptibility to twisting and warping, allow for even floor and ceiling surfaces, increased stiffness, and less vibration than traditional lumber.

Other environmentally preferable products are used in the home finishes when available and feasible, which include Bamboo flooring or tropical hardwoods certified by the Forest Stewardship Council¸ low- and no-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints that release no, or minimal VOC pollutants and carpet pads containing a minimum 25% recycled content.
