safeTspace Founders Visit Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office
We recently paid a visit to the Harrisburg, Pa. office of Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett, updating members of his staff about our age verification service designed to prevent unwanted adults from communicating with children on the internet. We were very pleased with the opportunity for a meeting and the way the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office has taken a lead on this problem. In fact, when Mr. Corbett took office in 2005 one of his first acts was to create the Attorney General's Child Predator Unit to identify and capture Internet predators before they can harm children. The unit also does a great job of educating kids and parents about online threats, and just this week Mr. Corbett announced the Child Predator Unit's 86th arrest. On Saturday, Aug. 4 the unit arrested a Kentucky man accused of traveling to Pennsylvania in order to meet, and have sex with, a 13-year old girl who he had sexually propositioned in an Internet chat room. The girl was actually an undercover agent from the Child Predator Unit using the online profile of a child. You can read the press release and see photos of the accused here. "Internet predators can come from any walk of life and any community across our state," Corbett said in a press release announcing other arrests. "The one common trait they all share is a desire to sexually exploit children for their own pleasure." safeTspace commends Mr. Corbett for his dedication to the problem and we share his commitment of protecting our children from Internet predators. |
