ABC2 Live Special 'Extreme Maryland Makeover: Behind the Build'

BALTIMORE, MD – Watch the live ABC2 special, “Extreme Maryland Makeover: Behind the Build” Sunday, January 20th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on WMAR-TV, ABC2.

The subject of the makeover is the Luther family who live on a farm in Cecil County. For 25 years the Luthers have run “Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding,” using their farm in Port Deposit to help thousands of people enjoy and benefit from their therapeutic riding lessons including a roster of students who suffer from a wide range of physical problems that include brain injuries, broken necks, autism, cerebral palsy, and other developmental issues. It is inspiring work.  But when Renee Luther’s husband passed away last year, the farm’s future was in jeopardy. This past October, hope arrived.

ABC’s "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" design team leader, Ty Pennington, woke up the family with his famous “good morning Luther family!” wake-up call.  ABC sent Renee Luther and her two children, Alex and Ellie, to Italy for a vacation.  And a team of dedicated builders and volunteers got to work building them a new home and riding facility in just seven days.

Clark Turner Signature Homes, along with Pennington and fellow designers Paige Hemmis, Rib Hillis, Ed Sanders and Eduardo Xol, completed the massive project with the help of more than 1,500 contractor and trade people volunteers. Clark Turner Signature Homes is an award-winning builder of high quality homes in communities throughout Harford, Cecil and Baltimore counties in Maryland.  In 2007, Clark Turner was named “Builder of the Year” by the Home Builders Association of Maryland (HBAM).

The ABC2 special, “Extreme Maryland Makeover: Behind the Build” airs Sunday, January 20th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on ABC2, hosted by Mary Beth Marsden, Brian Wood and Norm Lewis.  The two-hour Luther family episode of ABC’s "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" immediately follows the special at 8:00 p.m.
