Nellie R. Stevens Holly – A Versatile Shrub for Your Tennessee Garden.
Nellie R. Stevens Holly
(Ilex 'Nellie R. Stevens') is a
terrific, versatile shrub that will make a great addition to your Tennessee
garden. This broadleaf, evergreen shrub
grows from about 15 to 30 feet high and about 10 to 12 feet wide. Nellie R. Stevens has dark green leaves and
small white spring-blooming flowers. In
the fall and winter, its beautiful red berries add a splash of color and
texture to your Tennessee landscape. To ensure pollination and berry
production, a male holly shrub, such as Chinese Holly (Ilex cornuta)
should be planted near your Nellie R. Stevens Holly. Planted
in mass as a hedge shrub, Nellie R. Stevens Holly makes an attractive and
effective screen. This plant is also
well adapted to espalier. Nellie R.
Stevens Holly will grow best when planted in partial to full sun and can tolerate
moderate to dry conditions. It is a
fast-growing shrub with a naturally pyramidal shape, so the Nellie R. Stevens
Holly requires little pruning.
Birds
will also be attracted to your garden to feast on the berries of the Nellie R.
Stevens and to find shelter in its dense foliage. Visit LGYP.com to locate a
Tennessee lawn and garden center near you where you may purchase Nellie R.
Stevens Holly for your Tennessee landscape.
