Maryland gardeners enjoy ornamental vines in the garden.
Title:

Vines have great versatility in the Maryland Garden. They can be used to cover ugly structures such as a dilapidated fence or garden shed or the vine can be put on display by using it to grow over a trellis or large arbor. Vines can also be grown directly in the ground or restricted to containers or window boxes. Vines include both annual and perennial growth forms, but regardless of type vines are usually very fast growing.

There are so many favorite vines suited to the Maryland climate that it is difficult to limit yourself to just a few. Some of the most popular perennial vines are clematis, climbing roses and American or native wisteria. There are also numerous annual vines that are extremely popular including morning glories, nasturtiums and sweet peas.

Unfortunately, Maryland gardeners have also unknowingly planted several invasive vines which can easily overrun a garden. Some of these invasive vines include kudzu, English ivy and the multiflora rose. While it may be tempting to plant these particular vines because of their fast growth, dramatic flowers or spectacular fall foliage, they tend to spread and take over an area very quickly and force out the native species.
