The Cart Whisperer: A YouTube Case Study

VeriSign has launched a viral campaign to bring awareness to shopping carts abandoned by online shoppers due to security concerns.

The Cart Whisperer is a series of funny videos starring the fictional Liberty Fillmore, a shopping cart rescuologist. In addition to the YouTube hosted videos, the microsite includes an interactive photo gallery where users can send in their own pictures of abandoned shopping carts, contests, links to Liberty's MySpace and Facebook pages, and an area to download icons, desktop wallpapers and more. Users are encouraged to forward the page to friends and submit it to social media sites like Digg and del.icio.us.

While shopping cart abandonment is a topic that brings much heartache to online retailers, VeriSign's entertaining campaign has captured consumer attention and become wildly successful - the premiere video in the series has already been viewed over 1 million times on YouTube and has generated nearly 400 comments.
