The major snowstorm in the Northeast will wreak havoc on flight schedules for tens of thousands of travelers today. Nearly a thousand flights will likely be cancelled both into and out of the busy hubs throughout the region which include Boston, Newark, LaGuardia, JFK, Philly, and the D.C. Metro Airports. The airlines have already announced that they will allow for rescheduling at no cost if you choose to travel at a later date, which I highly recommend that you do. There will be a higher than normal rate of cancellations at many of the other large hubs across the Eastern U.S., i.e. Atlanta, Charlotte, etc., as the dreaded “Domino Effect” will take place today. Contact your airline immediately to find out whether or not your flight has been altered. Conditions throughout the Eastern half of the country will be nasty in general. Expect long delays even if you do get to travel today, along with lots of snow, ice, a very bumpy ride at the lower altitudes at most airports from Boston down to Atlanta. Very strong, gusting winds that will be felt during both take-offs and landings at most airports in the East. Buckle-up! It is for your own safety.
The rest of the Country's major airports in the Western half of the U.S. should experience good enough conditions for mostly on time flight schedules throughout the entire day and evening. Please, exercise plenty of patience if you plan to travel to or from the East Coast today!
